A couple of hours before she died, I promised my mother I
would write a book about her. For ten days leading up to the first anniversary of her death, I wrote down everything
I could remember. I wished I had written it before she died so that I could show it to her and ask her to answer my
unanswered questions. I decided to write down everything
I can remember about my father while he is still here. When I began, the memories didn't come as snapshops from a
remembered past, like with my mother, but as a story which began long before I was born. The pages of this site are imagined
scenes from the lives of my family.

I hope that this page will meet with the approval of family members living
and dead.
I dedicate these efforts to my mother, Dorothy Raitt Lykes, and to my father, Richard
Henry Lockett, Jr.

Why are we here? What is it all about?
